It's home to a sizeable population of endangered Florida manatees, which you'll be viewing from a whole new angle. Very close encounters are not unusual, and these great big softies (relatives of the elephant no less!) will definitely pluck at your heartstrings. Enjoy a BBQ lunch overlooking this pristine Florida waterway then it's time to head out for more wildlife encounters. Your next stop will be Homossasa State Park, renowned for informative and entertaining Manatee feeding sessions, hosted by one of the park rangers. Animal rehabilitation also plays a big role at the park and there’s plenty to see in terms of native Florida wildlife as well as some ‘imports’.
