One of Central Florida’s best kept secrets is Fantasy of Flight. World renowned aviator Kermit Weeks has amassed a stunning array of vintage aircraft from both world wars and pivotal moments in aviation history. What’s more most of them are in working order so every day at least one takes to the air for a display up above the grass runways and the vintage water tower. There's much to learn about those magnificent men and their flying machines and the history of flight. This is most definitely not a museum – it’s hands on, ask questions, meet the mechanics and pilots and get a sense of the real thrill of flying. The World War II display is especially good and includes a rare example of a Mark XVI Spitfire and one of the last operational flying boats. Our favorite was the P52 Mustang, a stunning silver bullet of an aircraft that roared overhead glinting in the sun. Guests in need of a bit of combat can climb into flight simulators and after a pre flight 'briefing' go head to head with the Japanese airforce over the pacific! (What do Japanese tourists do we wonder?) After admiring the 30 or so vintage aircraft on display you might want to try a tethered hot air balloon ride which affords visitors a birds-eye view of their surroundings, or a fabulous flight in a vintage bi-plane. Hey you can't visit this place and not leave terra firma!
